A man identifying himself as a neighbour of Mirabel, the woman at the centre of a widely shared assault allegation in Lagos, has publicly challenged aspects of her account, adding a new dimension to the controversy that has dominated social media conversations in recent days.

In a video currently circulating online, the neighbour stated that he was present at home on the day Mirabel claimed the alleged assault occurred.

Mirabel the tiktoker

He argued that it would have been nearly impossible for an unknown individual to enter the residential compound unnoticed.

According to him, the property is secured by a large gate and guarded by a dog, conditions he believes would have prevented any outsider from gaining entry without attracting attention.

He further alleged that Mirabel had previously approached other residents of the compound for financial assistance, telling them that her mother had just passed away.

However, he claimed that after reviewing her social media activity, he discovered posts suggesting her mother had died months earlier, specifically in July, which he said contradicted the timeline she allegedly presented to neighbours.

Mirabel the tiktoker

The man also asserted that Mirabel had only occupied the apartment for approximately three months. During that period, he claimed she was frequently heard speaking with men inside her room. He added that he had personally observed her in the company of a man who regularly visited the apartment and was seen leaving with her on multiple occasions.

The controversy has intensified online, with TikTok users dissecting elements of the allegation and highlighting what they describe as inconsistencies.

Some social media commentators pointed to the spelling pattern in the alleged messages attributed to the supposed attacker, noting that the repeated use of the word “so” written as “soo” resembled Mirabel’s own writing style in her posts. This observation has fueled speculation among online audiences.

Lagos State Police Command and the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency

Despite the wave of online reactions and emerging counterclaims, authorities have emphasized that investigations into the original allegation remain ongoing. The Lagos State Police Command and the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) are continuing their inquiries into the matter.

Officials have appealed to members of the public to refrain from spreading unverified narratives or drawing premature conclusions. They stressed that allegations of this nature require thorough examination, careful handling of evidence, and adherence to due process to ensure fairness for all parties involved.

What you should know

A man claiming to be Mirabel’s neighbour has disputed aspects of her viral assault allegation, arguing that the security features of their compound would have made unauthorized entry unlikely. He also raised questions about previous claims she allegedly made to residents regarding her mother’s death and her time living in the apartment.

Online users have amplified the controversy by pointing out perceived inconsistencies, including similarities in writing style between Mirabel’s posts and alleged messages from the supposed attacker. These observations have contributed to growing speculation on social media platforms.

However, the Lagos State Police Command and the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency have confirmed that investigations are still in progress. Authorities are urging the public to avoid speculation and allow due process to take its course in what remains a sensitive and ongoing case.
