The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has strongly condemned the killing of a 22-year-old Nigerian e-hailing driver, Isaac Satlet, in Pretoria, South Africa.
In a statement issued on Sunday by NiDCOM’s spokesperson, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Dabiri-Erewa called for the immediate arrest, prosecution, and punishment of all those involved in the incident.

She described the recurring cases of violent crimes and killings of Nigerians in South Africa as disturbing and a matter of grave concern.
While acknowledging the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and South Africa as fellow African nations, the NiDCOM boss questioned why some individuals continue to perpetrate violent acts against other Africans.
Dabiri-Erewa urged South African authorities to ensure that justice is delivered in Satlet’s case and to take stronger measures to safeguard the lives and property of foreign nationals residing in the country.
She also emphasised the importance of reinforcing rapid response frameworks and establishing structured escalation mechanisms to promptly address diaspora-related emergencies.
According to her, the Commission remains committed to intensifying risk assessment strategies and deepening structured engagement with host governments to better protect Nigerians abroad.
Suspect Arrested, Court Appearance Scheduled

Meanwhile, authorities in South Africa have reportedly arrested a female suspect in connection with the killing of the young Nigerian driver in Pretoria West.
The tragic incident occurred on February 11, 2026, after Satlet accepted a ride request through an e-hailing platform.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court on February 16, 2026, where she will face charges of carjacking and murder.
Police reports indicate that Satlet was allegedly attacked by a male and female duo who hijacked his vehicle. His body and the stolen car were later discovered in Atteridgeville.
Dashcam footage capturing parts of the incident reportedly assisted law enforcement officers in making the swift arrest of the female suspect. Authorities are continuing their search for the male suspect, with further arrests anticipated.

The incident has triggered widespread outrage and renewed calls for enhanced security measures to protect e-hailing drivers from criminal attacks.
Satlet, who was said to be a student preparing to graduate next month, has been described as diligent and driven, with aspirations to further his education in Canada.
