Newcastle United defeated Nottingham Forest 2-0 on Sunday, prolonging Forest manager Ange Postecoglou’s wait for his first win in charge, while Everton ended Crystal Palace’s 19-game unbeaten streak thanks to a late goal from Jack Grealish.
Aston Villa also continued their resurgence with another crucial victory.
Postecoglou faced growing pressure after fans called for his dismissal during Thursday’s Europa League loss to Midtjylland. The Australian has now failed to win any of his first seven games, the worst start for a Forest manager in over a century, leaving his future uncertain as club owner Evangelos Marinakis considers options during the international break.

Newcastle, who had only one win from their opening six matches, finally found form. Bruno Guimaraes broke the deadlock in the 58th minute with a stunning long-range strike before earning a penalty after dispossessing his former teammate Elliot Anderson. Nick Woltemade converted emphatically for his fourth goal since joining from Stuttgart, sealing a much-needed victory for Eddie Howe’s side. Forest now sit 17th, the same position that saw Postecoglou dismissed by Tottenham last season despite European success.

Everton End Palace Run
Crystal Palace missed the chance to move up to second after Everton snatched a late 2-1 win at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. The Eagles dominated the first half, with Daniel Munoz finishing off Ismaila Sarr’s cross to give them the lead. However, fatigue from their midweek Conference League win over Dynamo Kyiv began to show.
Iliman Ndiaye equalised from the penalty spot after Maxence Lacroix fouled Beto in the box, before Jack Grealish grabbed his first goal for Everton when Munoz’s attempted clearance rebounded off him and into the roof of the net.
Four Wins for Villa
Aston Villa’s strong form continued with a 2-1 victory over Burnley, their fourth win in just 11 days. Donyell Malen was the star performer, scoring twice after latching onto Boubacar Kamara’s through ball and later finishing confidently from Morgan Rogers’ assist. Lesley Ugochukwu pulled one back for Burnley, but it wasn’t enough to lift them from the relegation zone.

Wolves Held by Brighton
At Molineux, Wolves were left frustrated after conceding a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw against Brighton. An unfortunate own-goal by goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen gave Wolves the lead, but Jan Paul van Hecke’s header five minutes from time earned Brighton a point. Wolves remain bottom of the Premier League table.
Manchester City can close the gap on league leaders Arsenal to three points when they visit Brentford later on Sunday.
