With massive Lithium deposits and the rapid establishment of multi-million dollar factories, Nasarawa State is positioning itself as Nigeria’s potential hub for electric car production.

This vision was highlighted on Saturday by Deputy Governor Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, who emphasized the transformative impact of the ongoing mineral exploration and Governor Abdullahi Sule’s pivotal role in these developments.

During an event to commemorate Governor Sule’s two-year impact in office, Dr. Akabe spotlighted the recent discovery and utilization of Lithium in Nasarawa a resource that has drawn interest from major global electric vehicle manufacturers.

According to Akabe, Lithium had never been discovered in the state until Sule assumed office, a milestone that has now set the stage for Nasarawa to emerge as the first Nigerian state to manufacture electric cars, potentially second only to China in pace.

The deputy governor attributed this progress to Governor Sule’s integrity and sound management of public finances. Praising Sule’s transparency in governance, Akabe pointed out that the governor recently declared a federal refund of ₦9.7 billion to the state and went a step further by consulting stakeholders on how best to utilize the funds. “I have never seen this type of politics,” Akabe remarked, lauding the governor’s unusual openness in financial decision-making.

The event, themed the “Second-Year Impact Celebration of His Excellency Engr. Abdullahi Sule,” was organized by the A.A. Sule House to House movement, spearheaded by Hajiya Hussaina Sule, the governor’s daughter. In her address, Hajiya Hussaina praised her father’s achievements over the past six years, describing him as a trailblazer who has combined peace-building with economic reforms. Despite his humility and reluctance to seek praise, she affirmed that Governor Sule’s accomplishments are too substantial to overlook.

She hailed him as a role model whose vision and ethical governance have steered Nasarawa into a new era of prosperity and innovation. According to her, the governor’s developmental strides have positively transformed the state’s economy and elevated its profile nationally and internationally.

In response, Governor Abdullahi Sule expressed gratitude to the event organizers and commended their efforts in mobilizing people across the state to highlight his administration’s progress. He credited the state’s economic leap to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s national transformation agenda, which he said has provided the necessary framework for industrial and technological advancement in states like Nasarawa.

Governor Sule reaffirmed that the global spotlight on Nasarawa’s Lithium reserves is an opportunity for the state to integrate into the growing electric vehicle ecosystem. He noted that attention from countries like China and other advanced economies underscores the strategic significance of the state’s mineral wealth and the potential for a local electric car manufacturing industry.

With the convergence of natural resources, visionary leadership, and industrial investments, Nasarawa is not only rewriting its economic story but also charting a bold path toward becoming a central player in Africa’s clean energy and automotive future.
