During an ongoing enforcement operation at the Idumota open drug market in Lagos, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) made startling discoveries.
In a statement shared on X on Thursday, the agency announced that it had seized unregistered narcotics, counterfeit GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) medicines, and vaccines that were stored in highly inappropriate conditions – with some even hidden in toilets.
The statement detailed that the operation had unearthed a range of alarming products. During a recent raid on Tuesday, officials also confiscated expired USAID-donated condoms that had been illegally repackaged and marketed under the brand “Kiss Condom.”
Furthermore, the agency reported the seizure of banned drugs such as Analgin, as well as vaccines intended for cold-chain storage and Oxytocin – a critical drug for maternal health – that were found outside the required temperature conditions.
NAFDAC reiterated its commitment to intensifying efforts against counterfeit and substandard medicines, emphasizing that these dangerous products pose serious health risks to the public.
