On Friday, the Department of State Services (DSS) finally allowed access to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), following increased pressure from his family and legal team.

Kanu’s lead lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, had previously expressed concern that both his legal representatives and family members were being denied access to him at the DSS headquarters in Abuja.

Prince Emmanuel Kanu, the younger brother of the IPOB leader, confirmed after their visit that they were ultimately permitted to see him.

Speaking to newsmen, Prince Kanu urged the DSS to adhere to court orders that allow Kanu’s lawyers and family to visit him twice a week, warning that such denials tarnish Nigeria’s reputation. He emphasized that Kanu should not be viewed as a problem for Nigeria but rather as part of the solution, calling on the Federal Government to enforce compliance with legal directives regarding his detention.
