Manchester United have reportedly finalized a deal to sign Cameroon international Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford for an initial £65 million ($87 million), as new manager Ruben Amorim intensifies his efforts to overhaul the club’s underperforming attack.
Mbeumo earned Amorim’s admiration after netting 20 goals in 38 Premier League appearances last season. Tottenham, now led by Mbeumo’s former Brentford coach Thomas Frank, were also in pursuit of the 25-year-old winger, but United’s improved bid succeeded after two earlier offers were rejected. Brentford could receive an additional £6 million in performance-based add-ons.

Mbeumo is expected to complete his medical in time to join United’s pre-season tour of the United States on Tuesday. He becomes the third player to sign for the Red Devils this summer, following the arrivals of Wolves forward Matheus Cunha and Paraguayan teenage defender Diego Leon.
Amorim has prioritized revamping United’s attack following a disappointing campaign that ended in a Europa League final loss to Tottenham and a shocking 15th-place Premier League finish — the club’s worst since 1973–74.
Strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee failed to make an impact last season, prompting Amorim to seek fresh attacking options. Reports suggest the manager has asked Alejandro Garnacho to find a new club, while Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho are expected to depart after loan spells at Aston Villa and Chelsea, respectively.
Despite missing out on Champions League qualification — a blow that cost the club at least £70 million — United have remained aggressive in the transfer market. The £62.5 million signing of Cunha, along with Mbeumo’s acquisition, reflects Amorim’s intent to rejuvenate the team’s frontline.
Mbeumo brings versatility, capable of playing across both wings and centrally. His pace, creativity, and finishing touch are seen as essential to restoring United’s attacking threat. Over six years with Brentford, Mbeumo tallied 70 goals and 51 assists in 242 appearances, helping the club gain Premier League promotion in 2021 and secure a commendable 10th-place finish in the 2024–25 season.
