Kevin De Bruyne marked his Serie A debut with a goal as Napoli began their title defence with a convincing 2-0 win over newly promoted Sassuolo on Saturday.
The Belgian star, signed in one of the summer’s biggest transfers, opened his account in the 57th minute when his curling free-kick from the left evaded everyone and nestled in the far corner.

Scott McTominay had earlier put Napoli ahead with a thunderous header in the 17th minute, continuing his fine form after being pivotal in last season’s Scudetto triumph. He came close to doubling his tally before halftime, only to be denied by the crossbar.

With Antonio Conte staying at the helm, Napoli fans hope for another strong season, despite being without Romelu Lukaku for several months due to a thigh injury. New signing Lorenzo Lucca struggled to make an impact, while Sassuolo, champions of Serie B last season, looked outclassed and finished the match with 10 men after Ismael Kone’s dismissal in the 79th minute.
Elsewhere, Luka Modric was set to debut for AC Milan against Cremonese, while Roma prepared to face Bologna, featuring former Lazio striker Ciro Immobile.
