Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has dispelled ongoing rumours suggesting a fallout between him and his predecessor, Udom Emmanuel, following his reported defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking at the 55th anniversary celebration of Believers Assembly Evangelical Church of Nigeria in Uyo on Sunday, Governor Eno categorically dismissed the speculation as “baseless and misleading.” He emphasized that his political alignment has not affected the personal or political bond he shares with Emmanuel, whom he referred to as his “political father.”
“For those of you who think that because I’ve changed party, I now have issues with my political father, you got it wrong,” Eno stated. “I have no problem with Deacon Udom Emmanuel. He remains my political father. Just last week, I was in his house in Lagos and we had a great time together.”
The governor urged the people of Akwa Ibom to ignore divisive narratives aimed at sowing disunity, stressing that peace and unity remain crucial for the state’s continued development.
“Our young people must understand that leadership is not easy,” he said. “Let’s maintain the peace in our state and continue to drive the progress we are witnessing. This is the only state we have, and we must not allow outsiders to destroy it. We must protect it at all costs.”
Governor Eno also used the occasion to celebrate Prelate Isaiah Isong, founder of Believers Assembly Evangelical Church, for his 55 years of ministerial service. He praised the cleric for his consistent spiritual support and prayers for the government and the state.
“Through the fathers in faith, which you lead, you have constantly lifted up the government in prayers. I am glad that the government you laboured for in prayer is now in power. God has answered your prayers,” Eno added, praying for strength and longevity for Prelate Isong.
Chairman of the occasion and House of Representatives member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Unyime Idem, also commended the clergy for their pivotal role in ensuring the peaceful outcome of the 2023 elections, which brought Governor Eno into office.
Earlier in the service, Apostle Lawrence Achudeme of Victory Life Bible Church delivered a sermon titled “Mind Your Business,” drawn from Philippians 2:12–16. He urged Christians to concentrate on personal growth and spiritual maturity, warning against unnecessary interference in others’ affairs and destructive criticism.
