Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, participated in the ongoing local government elections on Saturday by casting his vote at his designated polling unit in Lagos Island.

Accompanied by his wife, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the governor arrived at polling units 06 and 07, situated within St. Stephen Nursery and Primary School on Adeniji Adele Road, at approximately 11:00 a.m.

Governor Sanwo-Olu completed the voting process at 11:28 a.m., joining other residents across the state in choosing new leaders at the grassroots level.

The exercise, which is being conducted by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), covers chairmanship, vice-chairmanship, and councillorship seats across the 20 constitutionally recognized Local Government Areas (LGAs) and the 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) within the state.

While the governor’s arrival at the polling unit attracted attention, he conducted himself in a calm and orderly manner, demonstrating leadership by example in encouraging peaceful civic participation.

The local government elections are a critical component of the democratic process in Lagos, determining the leadership responsible for infrastructure, primary education, sanitation, market regulation, and other key services at the community level.

Turnout across several polling units varied, with some areas experiencing early voting activity while others reported delays due to the late arrival of electoral officials. Nonetheless, LASIEC has assured voters of its preparedness to conduct a fair and transparent election.

As the voting process continues, residents and political observers await updates on voter turnout, potential incidents, and preliminary results.
