Renowned Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, better known as K1 De Ultimate, has issued a public video apology following a controversial incident at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja that has sent shock through Nigeria’s aviation industry and entertainment circles.

The August 5 altercation between the music icon and ValueJet airline staff has resulted in K1 being blacklisted from flying within Nigeria for six months by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), marking an unprecedented disciplinary action against a high-profile Nigerian entertainer.

In his apology video, the veteran musician struck a contrite tone, taking full responsibility for the incident that had dominated headlines for days. “I take full responsibility for all incidents. Once again, I seek forgiveness from Mr. President, the Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who’s also my father and father of the nation; the Honorable Minister for Aviation; the pilot; the airline; the airline staff; the passengers; and above all, my fans across the globe,” K1 stated in his public mea culpa.

According to aviation sources and eyewitness accounts, K1 was attempting to board a ValueJet flight when he was stopped for trying to carry unauthorized liquid onto the plane. What began as a routine security check quickly escalated into a confrontation that would involve multiple agencies and result in serious consequences for all parties involved.

K1 allegedly refused to comply and, in a moment of confrontation, spilled the contents of the flask on a ValueJet security officer. The situation deteriorated further when K1 reportedly exited the terminal, walked onto the tarmac, and physically blocked the plane from taxiing.

The incident has had far-reaching consequences beyond K1’s flight ban. ValueJet pilot Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and her co-pilot, Flight Officer Ivan Oloba, were suspended by the NCAA for violating safety rules during the altercation. Captain Ogoyi has since provided her account of the events, describing the confrontation in detail.

The severity of the incident is underscored by the NCAA petitioning the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police to prosecute the musician, indicating that this matter may extend beyond administrative penalties into criminal proceedings.

The controversy has been marked by conflicting accounts of what transpired. While K1’s camp initially strongly denied allegations of misconduct and inappropriate behavior, his latest video apology represents a significant shift in his public stance, acknowledging responsibility for the incident.

This unprecedented incident has raised serious questions about airport security protocols and the treatment of high-profile passengers. The fact that aviation authorities felt compelled to impose such severe sanctions suggests the incident was viewed as a significant breach of safety and security protocols.

K1 De Ultimate, whose career spans decades and who holds traditional titles, including being named “Mayegun of Yorubaland,” is one of Nigeria’s most respected Fuji musicians. His involvement in such a controversy has surprised many fans and industry observers who know him for his generally dignified public persona.

The musician concluded his apology by appealing for forgiveness from various stakeholders: “I accept responsibility and appeal to Mr. President, the country, the Minister for Aviation, the FAAN, the NCAA, and my fans across the globe to please pardon my behavior.”

As this story continues to develop, it serves as a stark reminder that aviation security protocols apply to all passengers regardless of their celebrity status and that breaches of these protocols carry serious consequences in Nigeria’s increasingly stringent aviation safety environment.

The incident has also sparked broader conversations on social media about celebrity privilege, airport security, and professional conduct in Nigeria’s aviation sector.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Renowned Fuji musician K1 De Ultimate has publicly apologized and accepted full responsibility for a serious airport security incident at Abuja’s international airport on August 5, where he allegedly refused security checks, spilled liquid on staff, and blocked an aircraft on the tarmac.

The unprecedented breach resulted in a six-month flight ban for K1, suspension of two ValueJet pilots, and potential criminal prosecution—demonstrating that Nigeria’s aviation authorities will enforce strict security protocols regardless of celebrity status.
