The bodies of four traders who were attacked and killed by suspected hoodlums along the Jos-Pankshin highway in Plateau State have been recovered and interred in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
The deceased, who were residents of the Yandoya community in Jos North Local Government Area, were said to travel regularly to Pankshin to trade in footwear.
Their remains were buried on Monday evening at the Sabon Anguwa cemetery located in Barkin Ladi town.
Security sources indicated that the decision to conduct the burial away from the victims’ home communities was taken to prevent possible unrest following the killings.
The youth leader of the Muslim community in Barkin Ladi, Danjuma Ibrahim, confirmed the development.
He said, “Earlier Monday afternoon, we were contacted that the corpses of the traders would be brought to us in Barkin Ladi for burial.

“We later received them and performed the funeral. It was done here in Barkin Ladi to douse tension in Jos.
“The traders were six but two escaped the attack. We buried four. We are calling on people in the state to remain calm and law-abiding.”
“We are also calling on the government and security agencies to do the needful to bring an end to the growing violence in all affected communities,” the youth leader added.
The traders had reportedly embarked on their usual weekly trip to Pankshin to conduct business when they were attacked along the highway. While two of them managed to flee the scene, four lost their lives in the incident.
Authorities have yet to release further details regarding the identity of the attackers or any arrests made in connection with the killings.
The burial, carried out quietly in Barkin Ladi, was aimed at easing tensions and preventing possible reprisals in already fragile communities within the state.
