The Federal Government has expanded its palliative distribution programme, extending support to students and residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. This initiative builds on the success of a previous rollout in Imo State.

Speaking during the distribution, Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, emphasized that the palliatives aim to address immediate needs while complementing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broader economic reform agenda.

“These palliatives serve as a bridge while our comprehensive economic reforms take root,” she stated.

The initiative has reached multiple demographics across the FCT’s Area Councils, benefiting student bodies, women associations, community organizations, and vulnerable groups. Among the student organizations receiving support are the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), the Nigerian Female Students Association (NFSAN), and NANS alumni networks.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Student Engagement, Mr. Sunday Asefon, commended the programme and praised the Minister’s commitment to student welfare.

Additionally, grassroots organizations, including FCT Market Women Associations, Area Council Youth Associations, religious and cultural groups, widows’ associations, and community development organizations, have also benefited.

Dr. Uzoka-Anite reaffirmed that the palliative distribution aligns with President Tinubu’s commitment to alleviating the immediate impact of economic reforms while laying a sustainable economic foundation for Nigeria.

“Our administration remains committed to supporting Nigerians through these challenging times. We are dedicated to creating a brighter future for our citizens, and this expanded palliative programme is a testament to that commitment,” she added.

The FCT rollout follows the successful distribution in Imo State, where thousands of bags of relief materials were provided across all 27 Local Government Areas, benefiting religious institutions, community groups, women organizations, youth associations, and vulnerable populations.
