A minor explosion has occurred at a storage building within the Nigerian Army’s Ilese Barracks in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, during the early hours of Thursday, August 14, 2025.
Army spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele confirmed the incident, stressing that no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded despite significant damage to the affected building and stored materials.
“Swift intervention by troops of the 12 Field Engineer Regiment, in collaboration with the Ijebu-Ode Fire Service, ensured that the fire was quickly contained,” Anele said. She added that the damage was confined to the storage facility and a detailed assessment is underway to determine the extent of material loss.
Residents of Ilese and nearby communities have been urged to remain calm as investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the explosion and prevent future occurrences.
