Former Oyo State Governor, Rashidi Ladoja, was on Friday installed as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland in a grand traditional ceremony that blended cultural splendour with modern governance.
The installation began at the Labosinde Compound in Oja’ba, where Ladoja was adorned with the symbolic Akoko leaf. He later proceeded to the Ose Meji Temple in Ibadan South-East Local Government Area, where he received the crown, marking his formal ascension to the revered stool.
Governor Seyi Makinde is expected to present him with the staff of office at the historic Mapo Hall, a ceremony that will officially cement his role as the paramount ruler of Ibadanland.
The new Olubadan succeeds Oba Owolabi Olakuleh, the 43rd Olubadan, who died on July 7, 2025. His transition paved the way for Ladoja’s emergence in accordance with the city’s distinctive succession tradition.
The ceremony drew hundreds of residents and guests, all clad in vibrant cultural attire. Dignitaries present included the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade; the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Ọlaoye; former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun; and the Chief Imam of Ibadan.
To maintain order and security, personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Army were deployed across strategic locations in Ibadan, ensuring a peaceful and orderly event.
The Olubadan stool is held in high esteem for its unique and highly structured succession system, which ensures stability and distinguishes it from other traditional institutions across Nigeria.
