Former Big Brother Naija star Queen Mercy Atang has clarified the reasons behind her temporary removal of wedding photos and her husband’s details from her Instagram page, shedding light on her decision to shield her marriage from public scrutiny.
In a candid video shared with her followers, Queen revealed that she chose to keep her marriage to David Oyekanmi private due to unsolicited messages he received on Instagram.
My husband’s account is out there, and a lot of girls feel the need to slide in his DM to say positive and negative things, she explained. The reality TV star cited her admiration for celebrities who maintain privacy around their spouses’ personal details as a key influence in her decision.
The move sparked rumors of a marital rift just months after the couple’s wedding. However, Queen has since restored the wedding photos and reinstated her husband’s name in her Instagram bio, quelling speculation about their relationship.
Beyond her personal life, Queen also addressed another challenge faced by public figures: online trolling. In a post tagging Instagram’s official account, she called out the platform’s policies, highlighting the unfairness of public figures risking bans for responding to negative comments.
Sharing a screenshot of a derogatory remark from a troll criticizing a video of her twerking, Queen noted the hypocrisy after discovering the commenter’s own questionable content. “The way some of you judge others yet do worse yourselves is truly wild,” she wrote.
Queen expressed frustration over Instagram’s restrictions, stating, “My account is currently shadowbanned, and I’ve already been warned by IG. So no, I won’t reply directly.” Instead, she urged the troll to “go take care of yourself,” emphasizing her restraint to avoid further penalties.
