Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, officially launched Grokipedia on Monday, a new online encyclopedia designed to rival Wikipedia, which the billionaire has long accused of harboring ideological bias.
The platform, currently in version 0.1, already boasts over 885,000 articles, compared to Wikipedia’s more than seven million in English. Musk announced that version 1.0 is coming soon and will be “10X better” than the current release, which he claimed is already “better than Wikipedia.”

“The goal of Grok and Grokipedia.com is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. We will never be perfect, but we shall nonetheless strive towards that goal,” Musk wrote on X following the launch.
Initially scheduled for release in late September, Grokipedia’s debut was delayed to “purge out the propaganda,” according to Musk. The entrepreneur has been a vocal critic of Wikipedia, accusing it in 2024 of being “controlled by far-left activists” and urging users to stop donating to the site. He also previously stated that “Wikipedia cannot be used as a definitive source for Community Notes, as the editorial control there is extremely left-biased.”
Unlike Wikipedia, which relies on volunteer contributors, Grokipedia’s content is generated by artificial intelligence — primarily by Musk’s generative AI assistant, Grok.

A Grokipedia article about Musk himself describes him as someone who has “influenced broader debates on technological progress, demographic decline, and institutional biases, often via X,” while noting “criticisms from legacy media outlets that exhibit systemic left-leaning tilts in coverage.”
Founded in 2001, Wikipedia is a nonprofit, volunteer-driven platform that prides itself on maintaining a “neutral point of view.” It remains one of the world’s most visited websites, hosting millions of pages written and edited by users around the globe.
AFP reported that it has reached out to Wikipedia for comment regarding Musk’s new platform.
