The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has emphasized that Nigeria’s future hinges on the success of the fight against corruption.

Speaking over the weekend at the Passing Out Parade of 169 newly commissioned Detective Assistant Cadets at the Nigeria Police Mobile Training College in Ende Hills, Nasarawa State, Olukoyede highlighted the crucial role of anti-corruption efforts in the nation’s progress.

“The fight against economic and financial crimes is one on which the future of our nation depends,” he stated. “The wellbeing of the country is tied to the unrelenting pursuit of the fight against corruption and related crimes.”

He urged the cadets to uphold integrity and discipline in their roles as anti-corruption officers, stressing the EFCC’s core values of integrity, courage, professionalism, and collaboration.

“You have been trained not only in law enforcement but also in ethics, discipline, and leadership. A great deal of trust is placed in you by your families, the EFCC, and the citizens of Nigeria to uphold the highest standards of ethics and integrity,” he charged.

Acknowledging the challenges ahead, Olukoyede advised the cadets to remain steadfast in their commitment to fighting corruption.

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State underscored the need for adequate manpower and public involvement in tackling corruption, reaffirming President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s dedication to strengthening the EFCC.

Similarly, Hon. Ginger Obinna Onwusibe, Chairman of the House Committee on Financial Crimes, called on the cadets to prioritize professionalism and ethical conduct. He also emphasized the importance of public reporting of suspicious activities and advocated for whistleblower protection.

In his address, Senator Diket Plang of the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes reminded the cadets of the high expectations placed upon them.

“The EFCC is always at the forefront of the Senate’s mind because the Commission serves as an image-maker for our nation,” he noted.

The Commandant of the training college, DCP Sunday Audu Peter, congratulated the cadets and encouraged them to apply their training effectively in the field.

Among the graduates, eleven cadets stood out for their exceptional performance. Agwuncha Ugochukwu Lotanna received the Best Overall Cadet award, while Anani One Melche and Adutu Joy Uyo were recognized as First and Second Runners-up, respectively.

The ceremony marked a significant step in the EFCC’s ongoing battle against corruption, with the newly commissioned officers expected to play a vital role in safeguarding Nigeria’s future.
