Afrobeat star Davido has retracted his earlier criticism of the Osun State Commissioner of Police, recognizing the security agencies’ efforts in managing the recent crisis in the state.
Earlier, the singer had accused the commissioner of failing to uphold the rule of law following the violent unrest that led to multiple deaths. However, in a fresh statement shared via X, Davido admitted that upon further review, there were “genuine efforts” by the commissioner to contain the situation.
He explained that his initial outburst was fueled by anger over the “needless killings” in the state but now acknowledges the complexities of the situation and the behind-the-scenes efforts by security chiefs.
“In memories of the innocent souls lost, human emotions overwhelmed me and many of my friends around. We did not know the Commissioner of Police had been having sleepless nights alongside other commanders. At this point, the contributions of the police commissioner were not fully appreciated by me. This is a grave oversight and I want to declare that his support for rule of law and protection of peace in Osun State is hereby acknowledged and appreciated,” Davido stated.
He commended the commissioner’s dedication and urged security agencies to intensify efforts in preventing further violence, especially with the upcoming local government elections on February 22, 2025.
“In memory of the dead and the injured, I urge the security agencies, including the Commissioner of Police, to redouble their efforts to sustain peace. We must allow rule of law to prevail,” he added.
Davido emphasized that ensuring a peaceful electoral process would be a significant achievement for both politicians and security personnel. He concluded by wishing the commissioner and other security commanders success in addressing the state’s ongoing security challenges.
