The trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), resumed on Tuesday at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Presided over by Justice James Omotosho, the court granted the Federal Government’s request for its witnesses to testify behind protective screens.

During proceedings, the Defence Counsel, led by Kanu Agabi, SAN, informed the court that the legal team had 22 members. Justice Omotosho, however, stated that only the 13 lawyers previously listed would be allowed.

Four senior advocates have joined the defence team, namely: Audu Nunghe, Joseph Akubo, Emeka Etiaba and Onyechi Ikpeazu.

Meanwhile, the prosecution counsel, Adegboyega Awolowo, told the court that the ex parte application for shielded witness testimony was filed based on “the nature of the case and for security reasons.”

What you should know
