Chelsea boosted their Premier League title hopes with a hard-fought 2-0 win over relegation-battling Burnley on Saturday.
The Blues earned their breakthrough through Pedro Neto, who struck just before halftime at Turf Moor, while Enzo Fernandez sealed the result with a late goal that underlined their dominance.

The victory lifts Enzo Maresca’s side into second place, three points behind leaders Arsenal, who face Tottenham on Sunday. Chelsea have now won eight of their last ten matches across all competitions, giving Maresca a satisfying milestone in what was his 50th Premier League game in charge.
The win also sets the tone for a decisive week ahead, with Chelsea preparing to host Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday before meeting Arsenal in a Premier League showdown on November 30. Although Manchester City could push Chelsea back to third if they avoid defeat against Newcastle, the Blues’ gritty performance in the freezing conditions at Turf Moor reinforced their increasing title momentum.
Meanwhile, Burnley’s struggles continued as they suffered their fifth defeat in their last seven league outings, leaving them hovering dangerously above the relegation zone.
Chelsea entered the match with notable absences. Cole Palmer, previously expected to return to training after a groin injury, extended his time on the sidelines after fracturing his toe when he accidentally stubbed it against a door. Moises Caicedo, returning tired from international duty, started on the bench after only arriving back on Thursday.
Maresca had already expressed frustration over another early Saturday kickoff, and his annoyance grew when an early mishap saw Robert Sanchez mistakenly kick the ball into Fernandez’s head, prompting a quick concussion check. Fernandez, however, was cleared to continue, and Chelsea gradually settled into rhythm.

Chelsea built pressure through persistent attacking play. Neto forced a deflection wide, while Jamie Gittens struck over from a tight angle. Burnley nearly found themselves ahead, but Kyle Walker, making his 400th Premier League appearance, produced a crucial block to stop Gittens from converting Neto’s cross.
A bizarre moment unfolded when Trevoh Chalobah handled Sanchez’s pass inside Chelsea’s area before returning it to the goalkeeper. Since Sanchez hadn’t restarted play, the incident did not lead to a Burnley penalty, much to the hosts’ frustration.
Chelsea capitalized on their good fortune with a beautifully assembled opener in the 37th minute. Marc Cucurella controlled a high ball inside the Burnley box and laid it off to Gittens, who sent an accurate cross toward the far post. Neto arrived with perfect timing, guiding a diving header into the corner—his fourth goal of the campaign.
Chelsea pressed for a second before the break, with Liam Delap drawing a save from Martin Dubravka, while Gittens’ deflected effort narrowly missed the target early in the second half.
Neto nearly doubled the lead when he smashed a powerful effort off the near post after being picked out by Fernandez. Burnley’s best chance fell to Zian Flemming, who blasted over the bar from a promising position inside the Chelsea area.

The Blues ultimately put the game to rest in the 88th minute. After a fluid team move, Marc Guiu squared the ball for Fernandez, who guided home a precise close-range finish to secure the three points.
