Grammy-winning Afrobeats sensation Burna Boy and rising country star Shaboozey will release their joint track “Change Your Mind” on Tuesday, July 8, marking a groundbreaking fusion of African and American musical traditions.

The collaboration will serve as the 15th track on Burna Boy’s highly anticipated album “No Sign of Weakness,” set for release just three days later on July 11. The 16-track project showcases the Nigerian artist’s continued evolution as a global musical force, featuring an impressive roster of international collaborators, including Travis Scott, Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones, and Belgian artist Stromae.

The partnership between these two artists first came to light during an exclusive afterparty following the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, where they premiered the unreleased track to an intimate audience.

The performance marked a significant moment for Shaboozey, whose real name is Collins Obinna Chibueze, as he made his Grammy debut with five nominations, including the prestigious Song of the Year and Best New Artist categories for his chart-topping single “A Bar Song (Tipsy).”

Shaboozey’s meteoric rise in 2024 has been nothing short of remarkable. The Nigerian-American artist has successfully carved out a unique niche by blending hip-hop, R&B, and country influences, creating a sound that resonates across traditional genre boundaries.

His collaboration with Beyoncé on her acclaimed “Cowboy Carter” album further cemented his position as a transformative figure in contemporary music. As the only artist with multiple features on the project—appearing on “Spaghetti” and “Sweet Honey Buckin'”—Shaboozey helped make history alongside Beyoncé as the first Black artists to achieve back-to-back number-one hits on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in the publication’s 66-year history.

For Burna Boy, this collaboration represents another milestone in his remarkable career trajectory. The self-proclaimed “African Giant” recently secured his 11th Grammy nomination for his single “Higher” in the newly introduced Best African Music Performance category, making him the most nominated Nigerian artist in Grammy history. This latest recognition underscores his role as a global ambassador for African music and his continued success in bridging cultural divides through his artistry.

Industry insiders have been buzzing about this unlikely pairing since rumors first surfaced in late 2024, when photographs of the two artists working together in a recording studio began circulating on social media.

The speculation reached a fever pitch when Burna Boy officially confirmed the collaboration on Wednesday, posting a tantalizing snippet of “Change Your Mind” across his social media platforms alongside the full tracklist for “No Sign of Weakness.”

The timing of this release couldn’t be more strategic. Both artists are riding waves of unprecedented success and cultural influence, with their collaboration representing a fascinating intersection of the global Afrobeats movement and the evolving landscape of American country music.

The pairing speaks to the increasingly fluid nature of contemporary music, where genre boundaries are becoming less defined and artists are finding common ground across cultural and geographical divides.

As anticipation builds for the July 8 release, Burna Boy continues to solidify his position as one of music’s most in-demand performers. The artist recently announced a major European tour, highlighted by a headline performance at the 80,000-capacity Stade de France in Paris on April 18—a testament to his massive international appeal and drawing power.

The collaboration between Burna Boy and Shaboozey represents more than just a musical partnership; it’s a cultural bridge that connects the rich traditions of Nigerian Afrobeats with the evolving sound of American country music.

As both artists continue to push boundaries and challenge conventional genre expectations, “Change Your Mind” promises to be a defining moment in the ongoing globalization of popular music.

With just days remaining until the release, fans of both artists—and music lovers curious about this unexpected fusion—will soon discover whether this ambitious collaboration lives up to the considerable hype surrounding it.
