Cameroonian winger Bryan Mbeumo has finalized his long-awaited transfer to Manchester United, describing the move as a realization of a lifelong dream.
The 25-year-old, who joins from Brentford, signed a contract that runs until 2030 with the option to extend for an additional year.
The transfer, reportedly worth an initial £65 million ($87 million), was sealed after United’s third offer, which included £6 million in potential add-ons, was accepted. Mbeumo, who had an outstanding campaign last season with 20 goals in 38 Premier League matches, becomes United’s latest high-profile signing this summer.
Speaking through a club statement, Mbeumo said, “As soon as I knew there was a chance to join Manchester United, I had to take the opportunity to sign for the club of my dreams.” He added, “The team whose shirt I wore growing up.”
The attacker, born in France but representing Cameroon at the international level, was also a top target for Tottenham Hotspur, currently managed by Thomas Frank, his former boss at Brentford. However, Manchester United’s aggressive push eventually won over both player and club.
Mbeumo expressed enthusiasm about the future at Old Trafford. “This is a massive club, with an incredible stadium and amazing fans. We are all really determined to challenge for the biggest trophies,” he noted.
This signing marks the third major acquisition by United coach Ruben Amorim during the current transfer window. Determined to turn around a dismal last season—where the Red Devils endured a humiliating 15th-place league finish and a Europa League final defeat to Tottenham—Amorim has been actively reshaping the squad.
Forward Matheus Cunha from Wolves and 18-year-old Paraguayan defender Diego Leon have already joined the ranks.
Mbeumo’s arrival aims to resolve the club’s offensive struggles, with previous first-choice strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee failing to deliver consistently last term.
“My mentality is to always be better than I was yesterday,” Mbeumo said, confident of adapting quickly under Amorim’s guidance. “I know that I have the spirit and character to reach another level here learning from Ruben Amorim and playing alongside world-class players.”
The winger had a fruitful six-year spell at Brentford following his move from Troyes in 2019. Over 242 appearances, he notched 70 goals and provided 51 assists across all competitions. He also played a pivotal role in the club’s historic promotion to the Premier League in 2021 and their solid 10th-place finish in the 2024–25 season.
Brentford’s director of football Phil Giles acknowledged the player’s growth and the timing of his departure. “There is always a right time for a player to move on and, for Bryan, that time is now,” he remarked. “He has the opportunity to go to one of the biggest clubs in the world, and we are very happy for him.”
Manchester United’s football director, Jason Wilcox, celebrated the signing, stating, “We are delighted to have secured another one of our primary targets ahead of the pre-season tour.” He added that the club’s upcoming US tour will be “the perfect opportunity for Bryan to work with Ruben and his new teammates as we prepare for an exciting season ahead.”
On the other hand, the club is expected to see significant departures. Longtime forward Marcus Rashford is set to complete a move to Barcelona, with an official confirmation likely by Tuesday. Additionally, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia are all on the exit list and will reportedly not travel to the United States for the pre-season tour.
Manchester United will kick off their U.S. tour on Sunday against West Ham, followed by their opening Premier League clash of the new season against Arsenal on August 17.
