Music icon Billy Joel has announced the cancellation of all scheduled tour dates through 2026, following a recent diagnosis of normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a neurological disorder that causes fluid buildup in the brain.
The 76-year-old “Piano Man” made the revelation in a heartfelt social media post earlier this week, citing complications from the condition—including issues with balance, vision, and hearing—that have worsened in recent months, particularly during live performances.
This is not an easy decision, but it’s necessary, Joel stated, apologizing to fans and thanking them for their understanding.
According to a statement from his management team, Joel has been advised by doctors to step back from touring immediately to undergo specialized physical therapy.
The team emphasized that the singer is “thankful for the excellent care he is receiving” and is “fully committed to prioritizing his health.”
Fans who purchased tickets for affected shows across major cities such as New York, New Orleans, Toronto, Santa Clara, Salt Lake City, Washington D.C., and Liverpool will receive full automatic refunds.
Joel’s health issues have been mounting in recent months. In early 2025, the legendary performer suffered an onstage fall during a Connecticut concert.
Though he managed to finish the show, the incident raised concerns among fans and prompted further medical evaluations. Several performances were subsequently postponed in March for surgery and recovery.
The announcement also comes less than a year after Joel wrapped up his record-breaking 10-year residency at Madison Square Garden in July 2024, marking his 150th show at the iconic venue.
Amid Joel’s health struggles, his wife Alexis Roderick Joel has also faced personal medical challenges. She recently shared her battle with endometriosis, commending Joel for his support and involvement in understanding her condition.
Though the future of his touring career remains uncertain, Joel remains optimistic. “I hope to return to the stage when I’m able,” he said, leaving fans hopeful for a comeback when health permits.
