A major political shake-up is unfolding in Benue State as influential figures within the All Progressives Congress (APC) are reportedly positioning themselves against Governor Hyacinth Alia, forming quiet alliances with forces loyal to former governor Samuel Ortom of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Sources indicate that the growing collaboration involves top APC stakeholders, many believed to be aligned with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume. The reported objective is to weaken Governor Alia’s chances of securing a second term.

The alliance became more visible after a controversial political meeting held at Ortom’s residence, where several prominent APC figures were in attendance. The gathering has since sparked criticism and allegations of anti-party activities within APC ranks.
Notable attendees reportedly included Dr. Mathias Byuan of the Federal Housing Authority, former Attorney General of the Federation Michael Aondokaa, Barrister Pius Akutah of the Nigerian Shippers Council, and Chief Sebastian Hon, all considered influential within APC circles.
While some party loyalists have condemned the interaction with PDP figures as a betrayal, the Benue APC leadership has defended the move, describing it as part of a broader political calculation linked to the re-election ambitions of Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of 2027.
In a statement issued by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Daniel Ihomun, APC maintained that it remains open to working with any political group or stakeholders committed to advancing Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The APC believes that national development… requires broad-based support that transcends party lines,” the statement read.

However, insiders suggest that the emerging alliance is driven less by national interest and more by internal rivalries. According to these sources, APC power blocs aligned with Akume are now working closely with Ortom’s PDP structure to counter Governor Alia’s growing influence.
The development highlights deepening divisions within the Benue APC and signals the beginning of what could become a fierce political contest ahead of the 2027 elections. It also suggests a possible resurgence for the PDP in the state, even as the party faces challenges in other parts of the country.
