Bayern Munich have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Liverpool winger Luis Diaz in a deal worth £65.5 million ($88 million), marking one of the most high-profile transfers of the summer window.
Multiple reports on Sunday confirmed that the Bundesliga champions succeeded with an improved bid after an initial £59 million offer was turned down by Liverpool last week.
The Colombian international has now been given permission to leave Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Asia to undergo a medical in Germany, signalling the final steps before his switch to the Allianz Arena becomes official.
Diaz, who joined Liverpool from FC Porto in January 2022, enjoyed a successful stint at Anfield, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup. His contributions have been crucial, especially during the past season where he registered 17 goals in 50 appearances across all competitions. Under new manager Arne Slot, Diaz helped Liverpool clinch their first league title in five years.
However, the 28-year-old’s omission from Liverpool’s 4-2 loss to AC Milan in a pre-season fixture in Hong Kong on Saturday sparked speculation about his future. Speaking after the match, Slot commented cautiously on the situation: “In Lucho’s (Diaz’s) situation, there’s a lot of rumours around him lately and I cannot go into that. He’s training really well with us but we have decided for now not to play him yet. I’m used to talking to most of my players on a regular basis. I cannot comment much more about that.”
Diaz’s expected arrival at Bayern will help plug the gap left by German forward Jamal Musiala, who has been ruled out for an extended period due to a broken leg and dislocated ankle sustained at the Club World Cup earlier this month. Bayern view Diaz as a ready-made replacement, bringing both flair and experience to their forward line.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have been highly active in the transfer market as they look to refresh their squad under Slot’s guidance. The Reds have already secured Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz and Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike to reinforce their attacking options. On the defensive end, right-back Jeremie Frimpong arrived from Leverkusen, while left-back Milos Kerkez joined from Bournemouth. Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili was also brought in to strengthen the goalkeeping department.
Liverpool are also believed to be keeping a close eye on Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, who is valued at around £150 million. A move for the Swedish forward would further elevate the club’s ambition heading into the new season.

Luis Diaz’s move to Bayern marks a significant shift for both clubs. While Bayern secure a dynamic winger to replace an injured Musiala, Liverpool are recalibrating with fresh signings as Arne Slot begins his era at Anfield.
Diaz leaves behind a legacy of silverware and standout performances, and his Bundesliga chapter is now set to begin.
