Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has held a private meeting with the National Chairman of the Action Democratic Party, Yabagi Yusuf Sani, alongside other top party officials.

The meeting took place on Saturday, February 1, 2026, at Atiku’s residence in Abuja and has stirred fresh political conversations ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The visit comes at a time when talks of a possible alliance among opposition figures have continued to spread across the political space.

There have been growing claims that former Anambra State governor Peter Obi and ex–Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso may be considering a joint move to contest the 2027 presidency on the platform of the African Democratic Congress.

Political watchers said such a plan could affect Atiku’s own ambition, as he is also believed to be interested in securing the ADC presidential ticket.

Reacting to the development, ADP chairman Yabagi Yusuf Sani clarified that the meeting with Atiku was not linked to any party merger. He also explained that the discussion was not aimed at bringing Atiku or any other individual into the ADP. According to him, the engagement should not be seen as part of the ongoing talks around opposition alliances, as it did not involve negotiations on party membership or coalition plans.
