Former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has declared that his political movement, The Omoluabi Progressives, will not form any alliance with individuals or groups ahead of the 2026 governorship election in the state.
Speaking during a reception organized in Osogbo on Sunday to mark his 68th birthday, Aregbesola emphasized the group’s independence and determination to contest and win the upcoming election without external partnerships. The Omoluabi Progressives was founded by Aregbesola after his tenure as governor and has continued to assert its presence in Osun’s political landscape.
“By this time next year, we will all be close to Abere (Osun Governor’s Office). May God make it so,” he told supporters, expressing optimism about the group’s prospects.
He firmly dismissed speculation of a coalition, stating, “People are having untrue impressions that we will align with anyone. We are not going to align with anyone. We are going to pursue our political interests separately. No alliance with anyone or group. By the grace of God, this group will win. We will contest and we will win.”
Aregbesola also shared a personal message on the significance of birthdays, urging people to remember their mothers in prayer for the sacrifices they made during childbirth.
“I am happy for this honour. I pray for you all, may you continue to succeed in all your endeavours,” he said in appreciation of the event organizers.
Moshood Adeoti, former Secretary to the State Government under Aregbesola, encouraged members of the Omoluabi Progressives to remain committed to the group’s ideals. Representing the current governor, Biyi Odunlade praised Aregbesola’s impact on governance in Osun, saying, “You left a good template for good governance in Osun State that cannot be faulted by anybody. Your legacy of service is exemplary and remarkable.”
