The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the recently concluded Niger State Local Government Council elections, securing all 25 chairmanship positions across the state.

The results were confirmed by the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC), which described the polls as “credible, transparent, and reflective of the people’s will.”

In a statement released by the Commissioner for Operations, Mohammed Liman, NSIEC disclosed that Returning Officers had completed the collation and declaration of results in accordance with the Electoral Law and the Commission’s guidelines.

“After careful review, the Commission approved and ratified the results, confirming the duly elected chairmen and councillors who satisfied all legal requirements,” Liman said.

The official list showed that APC candidates triumphed in all 25 Local Government Areas, including Agaie, Bida, Kontagora, Lapai, Bosso, Chanchaga, and Wushishi. Among those elected were Sayuti Ibrahim Halilu (Agaie), Usman Mohammed (Bida), Mustapha Jibrin (Chanchaga), Lawal Yusuf (Kontagora), and Mohammed Lokogoma (Wushishi).

The party’s dominance was reflected in wide voting margins. In Bosso, APC polled 29,140 votes against the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 6,039. Similar outcomes were recorded in Gbako (32,310 to PDP’s 7,363), Suleja (61,877 to the Social Democratic Party’s 1,146), and Lapai (43,604 to SDP’s 2,639 and PDP’s 1,429).

Across the northern region, APC maintained strong leads, winning in Kontagora (25,154 vs 7,164 PDP), Borgu (44,248 vs 3,172 PDP), and Mariga (25,485 vs 6,662 PDP). Additional tallies showed APC’s success in Lavun (53,257 vs 1,340 PDP), Mokwa (27,100 vs 11,210 PDP), and Edati (20,414 vs 8,553 PDP).

For councillorship positions, NSIEC ratified results from all 274 wards, confirming APC’s dominance with 271 seats, while the PDP managed to secure two—one each in Tafa and Rafi Local Government Areas.

Liman congratulated the winners and called on them to uphold transparency, accountability, and service delivery in office. He also commended security agencies, political parties, observers, the media, IPAC, ALGON, and voters for contributing to the peaceful and successful conduct of the polls.
