The Ogun State Police Command has formally arraigned the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the road accident that claimed the lives of two close associates of former world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua.
The suspect, identified as Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, appeared before a Magistrate Court sitting in Sagamu, Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State, on Friday, January 2, 2026.

Confirming the arraignment, the police disclosed that the 46-year-old driver was officially charged in relation to the fatal crash.
“I wish to inform the general public that the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the Anthony Joshua accident case, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode (male), aged 46, was charged at the Sagamu Magistrate Court today, 2nd January, 2026,” the police stated.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, explained that the defendant was arraigned on four separate counts linked to the circumstances surrounding the crash.
According to the charge sheet, Kayode was accused of dangerous driving causing death, an offence said to be contrary to Section 5(1) of the Federal Highway Act, Cap F:135, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, as applicable in Ogun State.

Additional charges include reckless and negligent driving, contrary to Section 6(1) of the same Act; driving without due care and attention resulting in bodily harm and damage to property, contrary to Section 7(1); and driving without a valid National Driver’s Licence, contrary to Section 10(1) of the Federal Highway Act.
After hearing the charges, the court granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦5 million, with two sureties required. However, he was ordered to be remanded in custody pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions.
The tragic incident occurred on Monday while the driver was conveying Anthony Joshua and two of his friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, along the heavily trafficked Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
During the journey, the Lexus SUV reportedly rammed into a stationary truck, an impact that led to the immediate deaths of Ayodele and Ghami at the scene. Joshua and the driver escaped with minor injuries.

Anthony Joshua was later discharged from the hospital on Wednesday night after medical personnel confirmed that he was clinically stable and fit to continue his recovery at home.
The former heavyweight champion, accompanied by his mother, was also reported to have visited a funeral home in Lagos on Wednesday to pay his last respects to Ayodele and Ghami, whose remains were being prepared for repatriation, which was scheduled for later that night.
