The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) is set to transform the landscape of the Nigerian film industry with the launch of a groundbreaking mobile application, announced by AGN President Emeka Rollas on Thursday.

The app, slated for an official unveiling on June 28, 2025, during the inauguration of the guild’s new national secretariat in Lagos, marks a significant milestone in the AGN’s ambitious digital transformation strategy.

The initiative, described by Rollas as a “digital handshake to the world,” aims to modernize the guild’s operations, enhance member services, and foster stronger connections between Nollywood and its global audience. “This is not just about an app or an office; it’s about building a future-ready AGN,” Rollas emphasized in a statement released to the press.

The mobile app is poised to serve as a dynamic platform that bridges the gap between Nigerian actors, their fans, and the broader entertainment ecosystem.

A Digital Hub for Nollywood Stars and Fans

The AGN mobile app, developed in collaboration with tech innovators, is designed to streamline how members interact with the guild while offering fans unprecedented access to the vibrant world of Nollywood.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the app will feature a suite of tools tailored to meet the needs of actors and enthusiasts alike. Key functionalities include:

Secure Fan Engagement: A dedicated platform for fans to connect with their favorite Nollywood stars through digital meet-and-greets, exclusive content, and interactive features.

Professional Resources for Actors: Access to news, audition opportunities, training programs, and industry events, enabling members to manage their professional profiles with ease.

Exclusive Content: Behind-the-scenes footage, red carpet coverage, and other premium content to bring fans closer to the heart of Nollywood’s creative process.

Rollas highlighted the app’s role in fostering transparency and accountability within the guild. “We are giving our members digital access and recognition while opening our doors to the world through innovation, accountability, and collaboration,” he said.

The app is expected to empower actors by providing a centralized hub for career development and networking while also amplifying Nollywood’s global reach.

A Strategic Leap Toward Modernization

The launch of the mobile app is part of a broader vision to position the AGN as a forward-thinking organization in an increasingly digital world. By embracing technology, the guild aims to address longstanding challenges in the industry, such as limited access to opportunities and fragmented communication channels.

The app’s intuitive interface and robust features are designed to streamline administrative processes, making it easier for members to stay informed and engaged.

Industry analysts view the initiative as a bold step toward aligning Nollywood with global entertainment trends. “The AGN’s mobile app could be a game-changer,” said Tunde Afolabi, a Lagos-based entertainment consultant. “By creating a digital ecosystem for actors and fans, the guild is not only modernizing its operations but also positioning Nollywood as a competitive player on the global stage.”

Strengthening Nollywood’s Global Footprint

Nollywood, Nigeria’s prolific film industry, is already a cultural powerhouse, producing thousands of films annually and captivating audiences across Africa and the diaspora. The AGN’s mobile app is expected to amplify this influence by fostering direct engagement with fans worldwide.

Rollas described the app as a “bridge between the industry and its audience,” underscoring its potential to deepen the connection between Nollywood and its global fanbase.

This app reflects our desire to not just reform our operations internally but also to build a stronger connection between the industry and the people who love Nollywood, Rollas stated.

The platform’s emphasis on fan engagement, coupled with its focus on professional development, positions it as a versatile tool for both grassroots actors and established stars.

A Milestone Event on the Horizon

The official launch of the AGN mobile app on June 28 will coincide with the inauguration of the guild’s new national secretariat, a state-of-the-art facility designed to serve as the nerve center of Nollywood’s administrative and creative activities.

The dual event is expected to draw industry stakeholders, government officials, and media representatives, marking a pivotal moment in the AGN’s evolution.
As anticipation builds, the AGN is calling on its members and supporters to embrace this digital transformation. “This is our moment to show the world what Nollywood is capable of,” Rollas said. “The AGN mobile app is more than a tool—it’s a symbol of our commitment to innovation and excellence.”

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

With the launch of the mobile app, the AGN is setting a new standard for how professional guilds in the entertainment industry can leverage technology to drive growth and engagement.

As Nollywood continues to expand its influence, the app is poised to play a central role in shaping the future of Nigeria’s film industry, fostering collaboration, and celebrating the creativity that has made Nollywood a global phenomenon.
