In a chilling incident that underscores the escalating security challenges in Lagos, Nollywood actor Adeniyi Johnson narrowly escaped a violent robbery attempt.
The popular Yoruba movie star took to Instagram to recount the harrowing ordeal, which occurred shortly after descending from the Third Mainland Bridge near the Alapere axis while en route to Magodo.
The attack, which unfolded in a mere 15 seconds, has reignited public discourse about the persistent menace of traffic robberies and the adequacy of security measures in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
In his Instagram post, Johnson described the ambush with vivid detail. “I heard a big bang on my windshield, and the next thing I saw were three thugs all over my car!” he wrote, capturing the sudden and terrifying nature of the assault.
The actor, who was driving alone at the time, noted that the incident occurred in a notorious hotspot between the Apostolic Church road and the 7up toll gate, an area known for frequent traffic robberies.
Fortunately, Johnson escaped with his life, though his vehicle sustained damage, including a shattered windshield, as evidenced by a video he shared online. “Guys, please stay woke, be safe!!!” he urged his followers, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance.
This incident marks the second time in a month that Johnson has been targeted by robbers, a troubling pattern that highlights the growing audacity of criminals in Lagos.
In a previous attack, also in the Alapere area, the actor reported a similar encounter, underscoring the recurring threat in this part of the city. “That particular area is a hotspot for traffic robbers,” one of Johnson’s fans commented on his post, echoing sentiments shared by many Lagosians. “I have been robbed there twice. These guys still operate freely,” the commenter added, pointing to the apparent impunity of the perpetrators.
