The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has granted bail to Nigerian socialite Emeka Okonkwo, widely known as E-Money, following his arrest over alleged abuse of the naira.

According to reports, E-Money was released on Tuesday and is expected to be charged to court soon.

E-money had been arrested on Tuesday on allegations of naira abuse.

Channels Television learned that E-Money was arrested by the anti-graft agency in the Omole area of Lagos State.

He was subsequently taken into EFCC’s custody in Abuja.

His arrest took place earlier the same day in the Omole area of Lagos State, after he was allegedly seen at a public event spraying both naira and US dollar bills—an act the EFCC says violates the Foreign Exchange (Monitoring and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act.

The anti-graft agency has been cracking down on abusers of the nation’s currency of recent.

A few days back, singer Terry Apala was remanded over alleged abuse of the country’s banknotes.

Meanwhile, Aisha Achimugu, was arrested by EFCC operatives at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja around 5 a.m. on Tuesday, shortly after her arrival from London.

What you should know
E-Money has been granted bail after being detained for allegedly abusing the naira, while socialite Aisha Achimugu, recently declared wanted, was arrested upon returning to Nigeria and has started a hunger strike over what her lawyer calls rights violations.
