The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has been honoured with the Courage in Justice and Transparency Award, presented by the Nigerian Human Rights Community.

According to a statement released on Friday via the Commission’s official X (formerly Twitter) page, the award ceremony took place on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at the Airport Hotel in Lagos.

The event was attended by a distinguished crowd of public servants, civil society leaders, and governance stakeholders.

Olukoyede, who was represented by the Chief of Staff to the Commission, Commander of the EFCC, CE Michael Nzekwe, emphasised the collective duty of Nigerians in the fight against corruption.

“We owe this obligation to our nation and future generations. Fighting corruption truly requires courage and transparency,” he said.

Describing the recognition as both humbling and motivating, The EFCC Chairman reiterated the importance of resilience in tackling financial crimes.

“Corruption is a monstrous mountain, and you need courage to break it into pieces. The most difficult thing to say is ‘NO’ in the face of threats and challenges,” he stated.

Olukoyede further highlighted the need for integrity within the Commission and the broader justice system.

“He that comes to equity must come with clean hands,” he added.

He dedicated the award to the staff of the Commission, appreciating their dedication and hard work. He also thanked the Nigerian Human Rights Community and the Green Peoples Environmental Network for the honour.

“This award will surely encourage us to do more,” he said.
He called on civil society and advocacy groups to intensify their support in promoting justice and transparency across the country.

“We need to build formidable synergy against corruption. Every little success in breaking the hard nut of corruption is significant, and if we remain consistent, we will eventually succeed in bringing down the rocky tower of graft in our land,” he said.

Reaffirming the Commission’s commitment, Olukoyede added, “The EFCC remains committed to upholding its mandate and strengthening Nigeria’s anti-corruption fight, inspired by recognitions such as this that affirm its enduring efforts.”
