VeryDarkMan, known for his unconventional social commentary, has disclosed plans to commission a new music video for Eedris Abdulkareem’s song “Tell Your Papa.”
The song was banned from airing on Nigerian media platforms by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) after the federal government deemed the song “unsuitable and objectionable” on Thursday.
In a video statement, VeryDarkMan blasted the ban, arguing that the critical social commentary in the lyrics encapsulates the very realities of Nigerians daily lives. “Is hardship not a phenomenon here? Are there not people dying from the insecurity?” he asked. Sharing plans to ignore the traditional media , he looks to social media to spread the song’s message, which he promises will do the song justice.
He shared a plan to work with Abdulkareem to create what he envisions as an improved version of the video “Tell Your Papa 2,” which features a Tinubu impersonator to underscore the social issues that the latter portrays he suffers with.
“We will sponsor a new video that I will star in, and since we cannot involve the real president, we’ll get a lookalike for him,” he said. The activist seeks to turn the prohibited song into a catchy social media challenge that dances around government censorship.
