In a recent update from Billboard, Trinidad native Nicki Minaj made history by being crowned the best female rapper in the world. The magazine’s top five list also includes Missy Elliot, Laurin Hill, and Queen Latifah, which goes to show how highly the publication views these hip-hop legends.
Surprisingly, Minaj’s peers Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion have even lower placements on the list, at numbers 11 and 15, respectively. Missy Elliot is ranked second after Nicki, while Lauryn Hill is third. Lil’ Kim takes Queen Latifah’s spot as 4th, while Queen Latifah finishes the top 5. Rounding off the top 10 are MC Lyte, Salt-N-Pepa, Roxanne Shanté, Eve, and Foxy Brown.
Despite being one of the most iconic figures in the lyrical world, Minaj has not yet won a Grammy Award, which is one of the most shocking details about the artist. Her peers, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, have both clinched Grammys and, along with Nicki, are considered some of the most popular names in rap music.
