Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck was engaged in a tense standoff with police officers on Saturday morning after performing at BOHO in Lagos, with the “Declan Rice” hitmaker refusing to accompany the officers and disputing their authority to detain him at the venue.
Footage of the confrontation, which quickly spread across social media, shows an officer pressing the rapper on why he was not cooperating, noting that an invitation had previously been sent to him and asking directly whether he was resisting arrest.
Odumodublvck pushed back forcefully, telling the officer his legal team had already dealt with the matter and questioning the police’s jurisdiction to act at the club.
He went further, claiming officers had visited his home earlier and instructed people in his estate not to alert him, a claim that, if accurate, would suggest the attempted arrest was not a spontaneous encounter but the culmination of an earlier, unsuccessful attempt to reach him.
He maintained that once he learned of it, he looped in his lawyers, who he says had already visited the police station to address the matter.
The rapper also invoked what he described as a court order barring his removal from the venue and accused the officers of trying to muzzle him specifically and of pressuring him not to discuss the situation on social media.
The confrontation doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It lands amid a prolonged and increasingly public dispute between Odumodublvck and fellow rapper Blaqbonez, which escalated in June when Odumodublvck publicly accused Blaqbonez of sexual abuse in a series of posts on X, prompting Blaqbonez to threaten legal action over the allegation.
Just days before Saturday’s incident, at another live performance, Odumodublvck claimed police had made several attempts to arrest him because of complaints filed by people connected to the feud and preemptively framed any future arrest as retaliation tied to the dispute, going as far as to name veteran industry figures M.I. Abaga and Ice Prince, whom he accused of shielding the person he says committed abuse.
Whether Saturday’s attempted arrest is connected to those earlier complaints has not been officially confirmed by police.
The video has divided opinion online. According to the Trumpet Newspaper Nigeria, the confrontation has divided Nigerians on X, with some users praising the rapper for standing his ground, while others questioned his interpretation of the legal situation.
Some commentators framed the episode as police overreach against an artist already engaged in a legitimate legal process; others questioned whether a rapper can unilaterally decide an invitation or court matter exempts him from complying with officers in the field.
Several of Odumodublvck’s central claims that a court order specifically barred his removal from the venue, that his lawyers had “settled” the matter with police, and that officers told his neighbours to keep the visit quiet remain unconfirmed by any court filing or police statement cited in reporting so far. Nigerian police have not issued a public comment on the incident as of this writing.
The video ends without resolution, cutting off as Odumodublvck continues to contest the officers’ authority, leaving open whether an arrest or a legal filing over the incident is still to come.
