Why APC Lost Osun Election – Wike
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said the All Progressives Congress could have defeated Governor Ademola Adeleke in the 2026 Osun State governorship election if the Federal Government had decided to use its full political influence.
Wike made the claim while reflecting on the outcome of the election, which saw Adeleke retain his position as governor of Osun State.
According to the minister, the Federal Government did not bring its full political strength into the election.
He suggested that President Bola Tinubu could have secured an APC victory if winning the state had been treated as a major priority.
Wike said he would have personally taken part in the political effort if the President had decided to pursue victory in Osun with all available federal political influence.
He maintained that the outcome would have been different under such circumstances.
The former Rivers State governor also rejected the idea that federal power was used during the election.
He said the level of influence available to the Federal Government was not brought into the contest and that a full deployment of such political strength would have produced a different result.
Wike further spoke about Adeleke’s political history, suggesting that the Osun governor could have ended up in the APC if certain political developments had gone differently.
