Suspected political thugs have allegedly attacked members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and destroyed properties linked to the party in different parts of Osun State.

The attacks reportedly happened hours after the winner of the Osun State Governorship Election was declared on Saturday.

According to Sahara Reporters, the incidents occurred in Ilesa, Iperindo, Atakumosa East, Modakeke and Ikire, among other communities.

Some APC members reportedly accused supporters of the Accord Party of carrying out the attacks.

One of the reported attacks occurred at the political office and private residence of Oluremi Omowaiye, the Media Head of the APC Governorship Campaign Council.

His political office at Oke Omiru and residence in the Ilaje area were reportedly vandalised. A source also said gunshots were heard during the incident.

“There was violence in Ilesa, where the political office at Oke Omiru and private residence of Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye at Ilaje were heavily attacked. Sporadic gunshots were heard,” the source said.

The source alleged that supporters of the Accord Party were behind the attack.

In Iperindo, suspected thugs were also said to have attacked the residence of an APC stakeholder, Omoniyi Dotun, popularly known as Adamo.

The attackers allegedly broke into the property and damaged his Toyota Venza, forcing some residents to leave the area for safety.

Similar incidents were also reported in Atakumosa East and nearby communities.

Another source claimed that a local figure, Adam Saka, was attacked in Omi Odo during the unrest.

“The coordinated attacks also spread to Atakumosa East and neighbouring communities. In Omi Odo, a prominent local figure, Adam Saka, was brutally assaulted by the rampaging thugs,” the source said.

APC sources questioned the alleged attacks on opposition supporters after the election had ended. They warned that continued violence could increase tension across the state.

One of the party sources questioned why “a party declared victorious in the polls would systematically target opposition members in unprovoked, sustained aggression.”

APC supporters called on security agencies to investigate the incidents, identify those responsible and restore peace in the affected communities.

They also urged the Osun State Government and the leadership of the Accord Party to prevent political disagreements from leading to more violence.
