Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has removed Sonia Ebanehita Omonzane as Executive Chairman of the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
The governor appointed Ayewoh Ambrose Oyakhilome as her replacement.
The change was announced on Tuesday in a statement issued by the Secretary to the Edo State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor.
Omonzane is the fourth person to be removed from the leadership of SUBEB since Governor Okpebholo assumed office.
Before her appointment as SUBEB chairman, Omonzane served on the Edo State Board for Technical and Vocational Education.
She was moved to SUBEB after Governor Okpebholo removed Onomen Goodness Briggs from the position in May 2025.
Following Briggs’ removal, she was transferred to the Board for Technical and Vocational Education, while Omonzane became SUBEB chairman.
Before Briggs, Dr Paddy Iyamu served as SUBEB chairman. Governor Okpebholo later removed him and appointed him as Commissioner for Education.
With the latest appointment, Oyakhilome will oversee the state agency responsible for basic education and the development of schools across Edo State.
Before his new appointment, Oyakhilome served as Executive Chairman of the Edo State Rural Access Roads Agency (RARA).
He was involved in government programmes focused on rural roads, connectivity and infrastructure development.
The state government said Oyakhilome was chosen because of his experience in public administration and involvement in government activities.
In his new position, he will be responsible for implementing policies and programmes aimed at improving basic education and learning conditions across Edo State.
