Popular Nigerian Judge Dies
Retired Federal High Court judge, Justice Baba Gana Ashigar, has died after a brief illness.
He passed away on July 25, 2026, in Maiduguri, Borno State, and was buried the following day in line with Islamic burial rites.
The Federal High Court announced his death on Tuesday through its spokesperson, Dr. Catherine Oby Christopher, who confirmed the late judge died after a short illness.
Justice Ashigar was known for his years of service on the Federal High Court Bench, where he handled judicial duties before retiring.
The court described him as a dedicated judge who carried out his responsibilities with honesty, commitment and a strong sense of duty throughout his career.
The court also noted that his work left a lasting mark on the judiciary and the legal profession.
It stated that fellow judges, lawyers, court workers and others who worked with him would remember his contributions to the administration of justice.
The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, alongside other judges, members of the court’s management and staff, extended condolences to Justice Ashigar’s family.
They prayed for God to give them strength during the difficult period and also prayed for mercy and eternal rest for the late jurist.
