A tragic incident has occurred in Kano, where a woman, Hafsat Yusuf, died just hours after giving birth to quintuplets at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.
Hafsat Yusuf delivered five babies, three boys and two girls, on Wednesday afternoon through a Caesarean section. However, her husband, Salisu Nafiu, confirmed that she passed away around 1 a.m. on Thursday at the hospital.
“She delivered the babies successfully in the afternoon, but we lost her in the early hours of today,” Nafiu said. “It is a painful loss for our family.”
Despite the heartbreaking loss, all five newborns are alive and currently receiving medical care.
“The babies are stable and receiving proper care from the doctors,” Nafiu added.
The birth, which marked Hafsat’s ninth childbirth, was described as both extraordinary and emotionally overwhelming for the family.

Medical personnel at the hospital have continued to monitor the babies closely to ensure their survival and healthy development.
A hospital source said, “The babies are being given specialised attention to ensure their survival and healthy development.”
Earlier, the Kano State Ministry of Health announced that the state government would take full responsibility for the medical care of the quintuplets.
“The government is committed to supporting the children and ensuring they receive the best possible healthcare services,” the ministry stated.
It added that the intervention aligns with ongoing efforts to strengthen maternal and child healthcare systems and reduce mortality rates in the state.
The incident has sparked an outpouring of sympathy from residents, many of whom described it as a moment of both joy and deep sorrow for the grieving family.
