Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party have called for calm among members and supporters as the party awaits a crucial ruling by the Court of Appeal on Monday in its ongoing leadership dispute.
The expected judgment is widely seen as a decisive moment for the opposition party, which has faced months of internal tensions and is seeking to stabilise its structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The appeal was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the PDP Governors’ Forum, chaired by Bauchi State Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed and signed by the forum’s Director-General, Dr Emmanuel Agbo.
According to the governors, the party remains committed to respecting the judicial process regardless of the outcome of the court’s decision.
“We stand at a defining moment for our democracy. The judiciary, as the custodian of justice, carries the weight of ensuring fairness, impartiality and the preservation of national stability.
“Whatever the decision may be, the PDP reaffirms its respect for the judicial process and its commitment to peace,” the statement read.
The governors urged members, supporters and Nigerians to remain calm and disciplined before, during and after the court’s judgment.
They added that the party leadership would meet immediately after the ruling to review the decision and determine the next line of action.
“We call on all party members and leaders to show maximum restraint, remain calm and be law-abiding before, during and after the judgment as leadership will meet immediately to review the judgment and chart the necessary post-judgment line of action,” they said.
The forum also encouraged party members aspiring to contest in the 2027 general elections to remain committed to the party’s platform despite the current internal disagreements.
While acknowledging the challenges facing the party, the governors said the PDP remains a significant force in Nigeria’s democratic landscape.

“The PDP has always been a cornerstone of Nigeria’s democratic journey. Our party has governed, opposed and contributed to the strengthening of institutions that protect the rights of citizens,” the statement added.
They further expressed confidence that the party would continue to play a major role in providing Nigerians with a credible political alternative.
The Appeal Court ruling is expected to determine the next phase of the party’s internal leadership contest and could significantly influence its preparations for the 2027 elections.
