The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered a warehouse in Lagos stocked with prohibited, substandard, and unregistered cosmetic products valued at more than ₦3 billion.

In a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) page, the regulatory agency revealed that the discovery was made at the APT Trade Fair Complex in Lagos State.

The agency further said that additional items, such as assorted perfumes, body oils, and cooking oils, were also found and placed on hold for further regulatory assessment.

According to NAFDAC, the warehouse was discreetly located inside an unfinished building, allegedly to avoid detection.

“NAFDAC has uncovered a warehouse stocked with banned, fake, and unregistered cosmetic products valued at over ₦3 billion at the APT Trade Fair Complex in Lagos state.

“Items recovered include 728 cartons of Crusader soap, 718 cartons of E45 soap, and Extract Gold whitening soaps, which are products banned by the Federal Government,” the agency stated.

Beyond the soaps listed, officials also found a range of other items, including assorted perfumes, body oils, and cooking oils. These products have been placed on hold pending further regulatory checks and laboratory analysis.

The agency confirmed that all confiscated goods have been evacuated from the premises to prevent them from entering the market. It added that the warehouse manager has been summoned for questioning as investigations continue and enforcement measures are intensified.

NAFDAC seizes banned fake cosmetics

NAFDAC warned that the distribution and use of banned or unregistered cosmetic products pose significant health dangers to consumers, including potential skin damage and other adverse effects.

“Members of the public are advised to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office,” the statement added.
