The Kano State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all entertainment centres across the state ahead of the Ramadan fasting period.

The directive affects event centres, popularly known as gala houses, as well as Disc Jockey (DJ) operators.

The order was announced on Tuesday by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Censorship Board, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, in an official statement.

“Effective from Wednesday, 18 February 2026, all such venues (entertainment centres) will remain closed until the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

“The directive will take effect from 10:00 p.m. on that day (today, Wednesday,” the statement said.

According to the board, the decision was taken to create a calm and respectful environment for residents to observe the Ramadan fast without distractions.

The board said the suspension of entertainment activities will last throughout the fasting period.

It added that the date for reopening the centres, especially for Eid celebrations, will be announced later.

“The closure will remain in force throughout the fasting period, while the date for reopening, particularly during the Eid celebrations, will be announced at the appropriate time,” the statement added.

The board called on owners of event centres and DJs to fully comply with the directive.

It warned that enforcement teams would be deployed across the state to ensure strict compliance.

The agency explained that the decision is part of its responsibility to regulate entertainment activities and promote moral and social order during religious seasons.

It also prayed for peace and good health for residents throughout the holy month and urged the public to support the government’s efforts to ensure a successful Ramadan observance.
