The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has summoned MultiChoice Nigeria over its planned subscription price increase, set to take effect on March 1, 2025.
In a statement signed by FCCPC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu, the commission raised concerns over recurring price hikes in Nigeria’s pay-TV industry, warning against potential anti-competitive practices and market exploitation.
MultiChoice’s CEO has been invited for an investigative hearing on February 27, 2025, following consumer complaints about unilateral price adjustments. The FCCPC stressed that if the company fails to justify its pricing strategy or is found in violation of fair competition laws, enforcement actions, including sanctions and corrective measures, will be taken.
The commission assured Nigerian consumers of its commitment to ensuring fair market practices, transparency, and accountability in the broadcasting and digital subscription industry.
