Troops of 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued eight out of the 10 individuals abducted by suspected terrorists during a wedding ceremony in Dabawa, Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State.
A credible source at Army Headquarters disclosed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday that the attackers, reportedly dressed in military camouflage, stormed the event on Wednesday and forcefully took away the victims.
According to the source, troops positioned in an ambush along the Yankwada River line quickly mobilised to the area after receiving a distress call. The soldiers reportedly engaged the fleeing gunmen at Garu Village in neighbouring Katsina State.
The troops pursued the assailants up to the Katsina–Gidan Mutum Daya road axis before losing contact.
”During the operation, eight of the abducted girls were successfully rescued and have since been reunited with their families, while efforts are ongoing to track and rescue the remaining two victims.”
The source added that military operations in the area are continuing to secure the safe return of the remaining victims and prevent further attacks.
