The Lagos State government has announced that full enforcement of the E-call-up system for trucks operating along the Lekki-Epe axis will begin on March 1.

Deputy Director of Public Affairs at the Ministry of Transportation, Mrs. Bolanle Ogunlola, disclosed this in a statement issued yesterday in Lagos. She explained that the technology-driven system had been in development for over two years to manage the anticipated surge in vehicular traffic from the Lekki Deep Seaport, Lekki Free Zone, Dangote Refinery, and other industries in the area.

“With enforcement now in full effect, the state government urges truckers to comply with the system, as several meetings were held to educate stakeholders on its benefits. Adequate time was also given for all stakeholders to come on board, and the enforcement date was postponed multiple times to encourage full integration and voluntary compliance,” Ogunlola stated.

She noted that despite the grace period, enforcement commenced on January 24, leading to the apprehension of 10 non-compliant trucks. However, these trucks were later released as a goodwill gesture, with assurances from stakeholders that they would comply.

On February 21, 11 more trucks were seized for violating the system, and the enforcement officers were attacked during the operation. Some suspects linked to the attack were arrested but later released as part of the government’s continued efforts to encourage voluntary compliance.

“The state government warns that these acts of clemency should not be mistaken for weakness,” Ogunlola emphasized.

She cautioned that from March 1, full enforcement would begin, and violators would face legal consequences.

“The state government remains committed to providing a conducive environment for the success of all stakeholders operating along the Lekki-Epe axis and, by extension, across Lagos,” she added.
