The 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has cautioned that terrorists must never be taken lightly or allowed to gain a foothold in any part of the country.

Kwankwaso, who previously served two terms as governor of Kano State, strongly condemned the killing of no fewer than 162 people in the Woro and Nuku communities of Kwara State, describing the development as brutal and profoundly troubling.

In a statement shared on his verified Facebook page, the former Minister of Defence warned that terrorist groups were gradually pushing their operations into areas that had long been regarded as calm and secure.

“I am deeply saddened and horrified by the reported massacre of at least 162 innocent lives in the communities of Woro and Nuku in Kwara State,” he said.

“This barbaric attack is condemnable in the strongest terms. It was carried out by terrorist elements that must not be tolerated or allowed to fester in any part of our nation.”

Kwankwaso emphasised that the Federal Government could not continue to downplay the country’s worsening security challenges, noting that the sustained activities of violent groups were exerting growing pressure on Nigeria’s armed forces.

“As I have consistently warned, these violent groups are steadily expanding their reach into regions that were once peaceful and secure. With each passing day, the burden on our armed forces grows heavier, making the need for decisive and coordinated action more urgent,” he added.

The former governor urged the Federal Government to respond with firm, well-coordinated strategies capable of confronting the security crisis and preventing further loss of innocent lives.

He also conveyed his sympathies to those affected by the tragedy, extending condolences to the families of the victims, the people of Kwara State, and the state government.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, the entire people of Kwara State, and the state government during this moment of profound grief. May God grant the departed eternal rest and comfort all who mourn,” he said.

What you should know

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s reaction highlights growing national concern over the spread of terrorism into regions previously considered relatively safe.

His comments follow reports of a deadly attack in Kwara State that claimed over 160 lives, reinforcing fears about the expanding reach of violent groups.

Kwankwaso’s call for decisive and coordinated federal action reflects wider public demands for stronger security responses and better protection for communities increasingly exposed to extremist violence.
