The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dominated the local government council elections in Osun State, with all 30 chairmanship candidates and 332 ward councillors emerging as winners.

The results were announced via a video by Hashim Abioye, the Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC), which was recorded at the Government House in Osogbo despite police having sealed off the commission’s office, thereby preventing media access to accreditation materials.

In the video, Abioye confirmed, “The local government election has been successfully concluded. It was conducted in compliance with constitutional provisions, extant laws, regulations, and guidelines.” He explained that the election, contested by 18 political parties, was held to fill vacancies across 332 wards and 30 LGAs in the state. “From the available result as obtained from the field, the candidates of the PDP in 332 wards emerged as winners, and I, as the chief returning officer of OSSIEC, hereby declare them as duly elected councillors of their wards,” Abioye stated. He added that for all 30 LGAs, the PDP candidates cleared the seats, and he formally declared them as the duly elected chairmen of their respective local government areas.

Abioye also issued an apology to the media for not providing accreditation materials, citing that the commission’s head office, where the materials are stored, remains inaccessible due to police closure.

This decisive win reinforces the PDP’s strong presence in Osun State’s local government landscape, even as challenges related to media access persist.
